5 Guidelines to Follow Attending In-Person PDH Events in 2022

June 7, 2022

After having experienced lockdown, extended working from home periods, and very little human contact outside close contacts, many people are ready to get back to in-person events, including PDH events.

Following recommendations from the CDC, most locations without high COVID rates are lifting mask mandates, allowing people to see smiles and follow facial cues in conversation once again. But what guidelines should people follow to reconnect professionally in a way that still keeps everyone safe? Hoffman & Hoffman is holding in-person events for PDH credit in almost every branch over the next few weeks. We’ve uncovered a few guidelines to help out our HVAC design engineers, building owners, and contractors who will attend events soon.

  1. If you’re not feeling well, stay home. This should be true across the board, even if you aren’t worried about COVID transmission. Many viruses are spread from person to person if a symptomatic person encounters other people. If you have a fever or a cough, it just makes sense to stay home, and maybe eat some chicken soup.

  2. Masks are optional. If you feel safer wearing a mask, please do so! Our branches will be following local guidelines and mandates; at this writing, our branches are not requiring masks for anyone.

  3. Wash your hands. We all learned how important this is in kindergarten. The rules of handwashing still apply: wash frequently and thoroughly to clean those germs away.

  4. Personal space. Many people are not shaking hands anymore. However, please use your best judgment. After years of not seeing old colleagues and friends, we’ve seen everything from hearty handshakes to fist bumps to bear hugs. If someone is extending a hand and you don’t feel comfortable, over them an elbow and a smile instead. If you prefer a seat that’s farther away from others, let our staff know and we’ll work to accommodate you.

  5. Clean environment. We’ll offer clean tables and chairs and, in most cases, individual lunches.

Continuing education is critically important for HVAC system design since technology is continually updated. We want to be sure that we’re offering exactly what mechanical engineers, building owners, and mechanical contractors need to stay on top of both PDH credits and general system knowledge. We’re excited to start our in-person PDH offerings again in 2022. If you are interested in training events, please let us know.
