The Critical Role That HVAC Technicians Play in Our Industry

June 22, 2020

hvactechnicianDo you have a new office building that needs a new air conditioner installed? Call a technician. Is a piece of your equipment malfunctioning, cutting off all heat to your building in the middle of December? Call a technician. Does your commercial HVAC system need to be regularly maintained through cleaning ducts and changing filters? Call a technician. I am sure by now you get the point; HVAC technicians are a key component to keeping this industry running. With their practical knowledge, continual training, and mechanical skill, HVAC technicians work every day to solve problems in equipment and systems. Their solutions lead you and your building to have a safe, efficient, and well-maintained commercial HVAC system.

To celebrate National HVAC Tech Day, here are a few things you may not know about HVAC technicians:

  1. Fundamental training is required for all HVAC technicians, but it does not stop there. The HVAC industry is continually changing with new equipment, innovative technology and ever-changing rules and regulations. HVAC technicians need to keep up-to-date with all of these things in order to efficiently continue to problem-solve on the job site. There is often manufacturer-specific training for technicians throughout the year.
  2. HVAC technicians do not work a typical day, and they can often work off-hours. Commercial HVAC systems do not just break down during normal hours; there can often be emergencies at all hours of day. Many commercial spaces, like hospitals, cannot wait until normal hours to have critical HVAC systems repaired, therefore, HVAC technicians will be there to help, no matter the time.
  3. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of HVAC technicians is “projected to grow 13 percent from 2018 to 2028, much faster than the average for all occupations.” The commercial HVAC industry continues to grow because HVAC systems are something that just about every building needs. In turn, every building’s commercial HVAC system needs to be installed, serviced, and repaired by a technician, meaning HVAC technician jobs are always needed.
